It has been reported that a new ransomware named as “Wannacry” is spreading widely. Wannacry encrypts the files on infected Windows systems. This ransomware spreads by exploiting vulnerable Windows Systems.
Majority of these threats passes through emails. You have to double check the origin of the emails before clicking on any links or attachments. Once you click on any of these, the computer will get affected by these threats.
Take these steps before clicking on any links.
1) Check the sender email address
2) Hover the mouse on the link to see the destination of the url (See the below example)
3) If you get email about any of your online accounts, log in to that account directly instead of clicking the email link.
See the example below.
1) You might get a link in your email like below and claiming it’s from Paypal.
The above link is for Paypal, now hover the mouse on the link, and you can see the destination url not belonging to Paypal’s site. Sometimes the destination url also looks identical or somewhat similar.
Now click on the above link and you can see the link takes you to a totally different site.
So take extra care before opening any attachments or links.
